Download Free Software

FortiClient VPN lets you connect to a network from afar through a safe tunnel. The data being sent through the tunnel is safe thanks to this security layer. The security makes sure that no one else can use the data, even if it gets stolen.

You can get FortiClient VPN, a protection product from Fortinet, as separate software for a number of operating systems, such as Windows. You can get it for free, but it only has a few features and no technical help.

Once you open FortiClient VPN for the first time, a notice appears that you must agree to in order to use the software. After you agree to the warning, you can go to the settings and pick between SSL VPN and IPsec VPN.

If you want to use SSL VPN on a PC that is running Windows Server 2016, you need to turn off IE Enhanced Security so that it works properly.

You can name the connection, give it a description, change the port, set up single sign-on, allow client certificates, pick an authentication method, and add a remote gateway in the settings window. If you have more than one remote connection, the VPN will try to connect to the next one if the first one isn't working.

Support for SSL VPN dual stack, which lets you send both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic over the same tunnel, is another option that is turned off by default. You can turn it on whenever you need to by checking the box next to the right choice in the settings window.

Perhaps the most annoying thing about Download FortiClient VPN is that it doesn't have an offline setup. The online installer is even worse; it can be very slow, and the progress box stays on top until the download is done.

Employees who work from home need a secure link right away. It is risky to connect to a company's computer through a public network, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. FortiClient VPN saves the day in this case. It makes a secure tunnel for communication between workers' computers and the company server.

You can move the progress bar to the side to do something else on the screen while you wait for the download to finish, but the fact that it stays on the screen makes it harder to use the computer.
